Overall Review: If I could get IL-2 to work on Vista 64-bit I would play that is much more realistic. Hence the reason the Germans came out with the better D-9 series. You can fly the 190 A-8 but by 1944 it was obsolete and couldn't perform with the P-51 and other allied planes. It was Germany's best fighter and saw considerable service in WW2. One of the key aircraft missing is the FW190 D-9 fighter. Some famous and important aircraft were left out: American B17 and B24, British Lancaster and Halifax, and German Heinkel He 111 bombers. In some cases, the variants are almost identical in armament and performance. Instead of modeling many designs, they made several variations of a few planes to make it seem like you could fly a lot. What annoys me the most is the small selection of planes you can fly. The flight models/physics are not very realistic. Fun if you just want to shoot down planes.Ĭons: Microsoft could have done a lot better. Pros: Nice graphics for when it came out. Overall Review: Look for A*rcraft P*werpack to go with this game. I can't count the flight hours in my log book. In the absence of any really "new" WW2 flight sims, this one still holds its own.Ĭons: There's not a CFS4. The game's AI pilots are better than most. Like other MS flight sims, you can control weather, time, location, and other details for many of the flights. Everything in the game is turned on and maxxxxed out! The flight and damage modeling, explosions, terrain, scenery, clouds, water, vehicles, and of course the aircraft are more realistic than in any other combat sim I've played to date. I'm running it on a XP MC (works on Vista too), 2.4 Core 2 Duo, 7950GTX graphics card, 4GB 667 RAM, with HOTAS flight gear. The better your system, the better your experience. The bottom line in any sim is detail, detail, detail. I would have to say it has replaced all my other WW2 combat flight sims, and even some of the modern jet sims pale in comparison. Pros: I have owned and played this game for approx. With an emphasis on tactical air power, many of your missions will focus on Air Superiority, Close Air Support, and Tactical Bombing.įeel the heart pounding rush of strafing enemy positions at 350 mph, 600 feet above the European countryside, guns blazing and bombs blasting, it's As Real As it Gets!Īdditional Information Date First Available Set in Europe from 1943 to the end of the war, players can enlist and fly for the US Army Air Force, the RAF, or the Luftwaffe.
